Themes:
Las prácticas concretas y las formas empíricas de "hacer política" han atraído poco la atención de los antropólogos e historiadores hasta estos últimos años. ¿Cómo se toma una decisión colectiva?, ¿Cómo se realiza la elección-selección de gobernantes o representantes de un grupo? Las sociedades – sean más o menos jerarquizadas o igualitarias – han elaborado medios variados de reunir a sus miembros, darles la palabra, expresar el conflicto y llegar a un consenso. La asamblea, cuando existe, puede representar el medio principal de elección o bien un medio entre otros. La decisión puede salir de la asamblea, del voto, del recurso a la adivinación o al sorteo. Las formas empíricas de administrarse y crear un "objeto político" se analizarán a través del estudio de casos concretos en varias partes del mundo.

Kimberle Williams Crenshaw has pointed out that feminist and critical race theories often separate gender and race to the detriment of both feminism and anti-racism. How might consideration of the interrelatedness of gender and race discourses transform feminist and anti-racist philosophical analyses?

- To what extent do perceptions of the global and one's place in it hinge on and inform manufactured images and standardized products?
- What expectations structure the relationship between producers and consumers of culture in the global economy?
- To what extent do regional/national frameworks define the salient issues arising from the interaction of the global and the local?
- What can we learn from comparing publics enmeshed within these frameworks?

Thématique:
Le dialogue des cultures s'avère de nos jours d'autant plus impératif que le nouveau système international, après des décennies de guerre froide, présente des risques de dérives hégémoniques qu'il faudra affronter en consolidant de nouveaux espaces de concertation. Afin de pouvoir plaider en faveur d'une approche ouverte et plurale de la culture et des civilisations, il n'est d'autre moyen que le dialogue pour aménager une société internationale où les identités les plus diverses se complèteraient au profit de chacun et de l'ensemble.
C'est en faisant prévaloir la cohérence harmonieuse des cultures dans le cadre d'une complémentarité partagée qu'on pourra dénoncer le risque d'un modèle culturel dominant et exclusif qui tend à ravaler les cultures dites périphériques au rang de réserves culturelles.
Ainsi, culture rimerait avec développement et croissance économique dans un monde où la richesse tend de plus en plus à se concentrer autour d'une économie de la connaissance que nous voudrions accessible à tous. Faire circuler les savoirs en permettant à tous le droit à une modernité démocratique, voilà le véritable enjeu d'un dialogue entre cultures et sociétés.
Vivre ensemble mais différents, vivre ensemble nos différences ... c'est le défi que le Liban souhaiterait relever de concert avec l'ensemble francophone, où la langue française constitue le lien et un vecteur de communication.

- What sorts of groups can make a claim to this kind of right? How can a group with a claim to collective identity and rights assert itself and have its assertion recognized?
- How can such rights be exercised and who can claim to speak on behalf of a group especially where traditional power structures are not democratic? - How can the exercise of collective rights be reconciled with the rights of other groups, or to individual rights both within and without the collective, when there is a clash?

- The fabrication of multiple times, spaces, and actants, and the role of inscriptions and standardised practices in this process of fabrication
- The maintenance of certain standards and constants and their role in creating current notions of space and time (e.g. the delegation of measurement and categorization to different forms of instrumentation)
- The role of practical tools in achieving organizations, and in particular how different 'spacings' are achieved and how faster 'timings' are produced
- The desire to achieve transportation of information, without deformation
- Globalisation and notions of space and time within our 'networked' society

Topics:
- How are literary genres racialized? How have national literatures erased ethnic and racial difference within its nationalistic parameters of definition?
- How are definitions of history and historicity predicated on notions of racial difference?
- How have the arts been constructed on racialized aesthetic foundations?
- How have art historians shaped research through racialized frames of enquiry and analysis? How, historically and institutionally, have the arts benefited from the institutions of slavery and colonialism?
- How has race been formative in the establishment of disciplinary boundaries? And how do the methodologies of disciplines perpetuate the racialization of knowledges?

Theme:
The conference will focus on the role of diversity in public education and political theory, the importance of citizenship education, the relation between public education, cultural differences and language policies.
